Tony Stark's Acura NSX Roadster From 'The Avengers' Is For Sale, But There's A Catch
This Acura NSX Roadster concept, built for The Avengers on a 1991 chassis, is auctioned as a display piece only.
Acura's design studio built this NSX Roadster to make Tony Stark's garage look as sharp on screen as his suits. The one-off concept is now live on Cars & Bids and bidding wraps at the Las Vegas Concours on October 31 at 2:00 PM PDT.
However, there is a catch behind the movie-car. This NSX Roadster cannot be titled, registered, or legally driven on public roads. It exists as a purpose-built showpiece for the camera, and the auction listing presents it strictly as a display car.
The Movie Car Is A One-Off Concept
Acura NSX Roadster From Marvel’s 'The Avengers'
Acura's Los Angeles Design Studio built the NSX Roadster specifically for the 2012 film "The Avengers," giving Tony Stark a futuristic two-seater years before the second-generation NSX ever reached production. The car will share the stage with Acura's Nexera Vision concept when bidding closes at the Las Vegas Concours.
Cars & Bids lists the car plainly as a one-off concept, and the terms are not a formality. It cannot be titled, registered, or driven on public roads. That rules out the usual fantasy of parking a Marvel prop in your driveway and taking it to a cars-and-coffee meet.
The sale sits closer to a static collectible than a usable classic. Buyers chasing a drivable Stark garage piece should look elsewhere as this one is built for display.
Whoever wins the bidding picks the charity that receives the proceeds. Acura has separately guaranteed its own contribution to the Sundance Institute, which supports independent filmmakers and emerging artists, a nice tribute for a car that only exists because of a movie.

1991 Underpinnings And The STARK 33 Plate
The futuristic bodywork hides something considerably older than it looks. Acura built the Roadster's hand-crafted shell, styled after the second-generation NSX Concept, over the chassis of a 1991 Acura NSX, the very first model year of Honda's original supercar.
Underneath, the car keeps the hardware from that first-generation NSX. There's no trace of the hybrid V6 that eventually powered the production second-gen car. The donor platform runs a 3.0-liter V6 paired with a five-speed manual, decades-old mechanicals wearing a 2012 superhero costume.
The movie car still wears its "STARK 33" license plate, unchanged since it last appeared on screen. Acura has kept the rest of the configuration intact for the sale rather than restoring or modifying it.
The NSX nameplate has drawn plenty of unusual auction attention over the years, from a car once owned by Ayrton Senna to a recent restomod built around a Judd engine. This Roadster adds a different kind of rarity to that list: one built for a camera crew instead of a racetrack.
