Tesla has finally revealed its long-awaited next-generation Roadster, and it looks completely bonkers. Nearly nine years after the original prototype debuted, Tesla is promising some insane details for its new Roadster:

  • 0-60 MPH In Under 1.0 Second
  • A Fan Underneath The Car Generating 2 Gs Of Grip
  • Thrusters From SpaceX

The company says the car can corner with enough force to make it look like it's breaking the laws of physics. Oh, and Tesla says the Roadster can literally fly.

The Roadster Will Be Tesla's Only Manually Driven Car

Tesla is increasingly focused on autonomous driving, but the Roadster will apparently remain an exception. Elon Musk said:

'This will actually be long-term the only manually driven car that Tesla makes.'

While the company's other vehicles move toward increasingly automated driving capabilities, the Roadster is being designed for drivers (or, pilots). And Tesla wants it to be special:

'So if it's going to be the only manually driven car, let's take it to the limits and beyond the limits.'

A Giant Fan Can Pull The Roadster Into The Road

One of the Roadster's most unusual features is hidden underneath the car.

Tesla has developed a fan suction system on the bottom of the vehicle that can actively pull the car toward the pavement. The company says the system can generate enough grip for the Roadster to experience as much as 2 g of cornering force.

Tesla says the Roadster can corner so aggressively that it looks like it's breaking physics—and it wants to break track records.

The company says the Roadster is being developed to deliver performance that goes beyond what today's sports cars can achieve. In fact, Musk made a huge promise about what the car will eventually accomplish:

What do you think?

'It's gonna crush every track record that has ever existed.'

The new Roadster goes into production in 2028.
