Audi S1 tuned to 380 hp is a wolf in sheep's clothing
Audi doesn't have an RS1, although this tuned S1 has what it takes to serve as a substitute.
It’s too late in the game for the current A1 to receive the RS treatment, but the tuners from B&B Automobiltechnik have the next best thing. Meet the modified S1 which can be had in one of the five stages of tune, with the strongest one pushing the turbocharged 2.0-liter engine to a whopping 380 horsepower (279 kilowatts) and 399 pound-feet (540 newton meters) of torque. For the sake of comparison, a stock S1 facelift provides 231 hp (170 kW) and 273 lb-ft (370 Nm).
If you’re not totally impressed by the power gains, remember the bigger Audi RS3 Sportback with its larger 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine churns “only” 367 hp & 465 Nm, so the lighter S1 from B&B should be quite the little beast. As a matter of fact, with the stage 5 kit implemented it will run to 62 mph (100 kph) in just four and a half seconds and will need 16.8 seconds to cover the 0-124 mph (0-200 kph) sprint before maxing out at 177 mph (285 kph).
These are some proper performances for the pocket rocket, but it’s going to cost you. B&B is asking more than €10,000 (about $11,110) for the whole shebang. On top of that you can pay more for extra goodies such as the optional sports spring set (€298 / $331) which will lower the S1 by 35 mm. Additional stopping power to match the beefier engine costs from €3,295 / $3,663 and brings 342-mm vented front discs which can be paired with the tuner’s 18-inch wheels available for €2,298 / $2,554.
We remind you the A1/S1 is currently being produced in Brussels, Belgium, but that’s going to change starting 2018 when assembly will be relocated to SEAT’s Martorell factory in Spain. Most likely, the supermini will make the switch to a new generation which will reportedly be a tad longer and will gain that fancy 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster aka Audi Virtual Cockpit.
