Ayer fue el turno del Dodge Challenger (leer obituario). Y hoy le tocó al Chevrolet Camaro. General Motors anunció este mediodía que, a fin de año, dejará de fabricar la sexta generación de su famoso muscle-car. El llamado Camaro Six se despedirá con una edición limitada para coleccionistas, del que hoy se revelaron las primeras tres imágenes a modo de anticipo (ver abajo).
Sin embargo, la marca prometió que el nombre Camaro no desaparecerá. Se espera que esa denominación la utilice en el futuro una versión electrificada, tal como Dodge hará con el Challenger y como Ford ya hizo con el Mustang Mach-E.
Con el lema "Thanks, Six" (foto de portada), Chevrolet despidió a a una generación que no tuvo buenas ventas, sobre todo en comparación con sus rivales históricos (ver estadísticas).
En la Argentina, General Motors comercializó de manera oficial el Camaro en su quinta (leer crítica) y sexta generación (leer crítica). En la prática, el stock disponible para el Camaro Six se agotó en diciembre de 2018. Sin embargo, aún hoy Chevrolet ofrece en su web de la Argentina el Camaro Six en versiones Coupé y Convertible.
¿Por qué el Camaro permanece vigente de manera online, tras llevar casi cuatro años de ausencia en los concesionarios? La marca explico que es una decisión de Marketing y Comercial, para que los compradores del modelo se sientan acompañados de manera virtual (y presencial, en los servicios de postventa).
Luego del lanzamiento del Camaro Six en la Argentina, realizado en junio de 2017, el modelo recibió dos restylings a nivel global, pero ninguno de ellos llegó a ofrecerse en nuestro mercado. Con la confirmación del fin de la producción del Camaro Six, el Ford Mustang queda como el único muscle-car a la venta en la Argentina. Y, tras la despedida de ayer del Challenger, en el mundo también.

"Thanks, Six", publicó hoy General Motors para despedir a la sexta generación del Camaro. Al mismo tiempo, reveló en forma de "teaser" un anticipo de la edición limitada para coleccionistas, que se presentará antes de fin de año.
El Camaro Collectors Edition estará basado en la versión ZL1.
Será el último Camaro sin "electrificación".
Aún hoy, la web de Chevrolet Argentina ofrece el Camaro Coupé (en versión previa a los dos restylings que nunca llegaron a nuestro país).

Sixth generation Camaro bows out, Chevrolet announces final Collector’s Edition
DETROIT – After nine strong model years in the market, with hundreds of thousands sold, the sixth generation Chevrolet Camaro will retire at the conclusion of model year 2024.The final sixth generation Camaros will come off the assembly line at the Lansing Grand River Assembly Plant in Michigan in January 2024.
Available in coupe and soft-top convertible variants, this latest generation Camaro is known for supreme athleticism and composure. Magnetic Ride Control became available on the Camaro SS in the sixth generation and track-focused 1LE packages proliferated through all levels of the lineup for the first time. The ultimate street-legal track Camaro, the 650 horsepower ZL1 1LE, produced the fastest time for any Camaro around GM’s Milford Road Course at the company’s Milford Proving Ground in Michigan.
Whether it is picking up awards for on-road performance, or race wins and championships at tracks across the world, Camaro has demonstrated Chevrolet’s ability to win in the most demanding environments.
“As we prepare to say goodbye to the current generation Camaro, it is difficult to overstate our gratitude to every Camaro customer, Camaro assembly line employee and race fan,” said Scott Bell, vice president, Global Chevrolet. “While we are not announcing an immediate successor today, rest assured, this is not the end of Camaro’s story.”
Chevrolet will celebrate this storied nameplate with the addition of the Collector’s Edition package on the 2024 Camaro RS and SS, and on a limited number of ZL1 equipped vehicles available in North America. The Collector’s Edition pays homage to Camaro, resurfacing ties that date back to the development of the first generation Camaro in the 1960s, most notably the program’s initial code name: Panther.
More information on the 2024 Camaro line and Collector’s Edition package will be available closer to the start of orders this summer.
