Los World Car Awards son los premios más importantes de la industria automotriz mundial. Todos los años, más de 100 periodistas de 34 países eligen a los nuevos modelos más destacados del mercado automotor global.

Los jurados de cada país son elegidos por votación entre sus propios colegas de todo el mundo, en reconocimiento a su trayectoria periodística. La lista completa de jurados internacionales se puede leer acá.

Desde el año pasado, la Argentina está representada por Carlos Cristófalo, editor de Autoblog y director periodístico de la Revista Miura. Los resultados de la edición 2021 se publicaron acá.

La semana pasada se anunció la lista de los candidatos para la elección que se llevará a cabo en marzo de 2022.

Se volverán a votar seis categorías.

The 2022 list of eligible vehicles is provisional based on information available at this time. The list may be updated until December 1, 2021 when it becomes final and no further changes can be made.

Those vehicles marked with an asterisk (*) may change categories once pricing information has been received by the World Car Awards.

  • Vehicles eligible for World Car of the Year must be produced in volumes of at least 10,000 units/year, must be priced below the luxury-car level in their primary markets, and must be “on-sale” in at least two major markets (China, Europe, India, Japan, Korea, Latin America, USA) on at least two separate continents within the period January 1, 2021 and March 30, 2022. Multi-category Entries: Vehicles in the World Performance Car, World Urban Car, World Electric Vehicle and World Car Design of the Year categories may also be contenders in the overall “World Car of the Year” class or "World Luxury Car" class, depending on type and pricing. All vehicles eligible for other World Car award categories are automatically eligible for World Car Design of the Year.

  • World Urban Car: Vehicles eligible for World Urban Car must be produced in volumes of at least 5,000 units/year and must be “on-sale” in at least two major markets (China, Europe, India, Japan, Korea, Latin America, USA) on at least two separate continents within the period January 1, 2021 and March 30, 2022. Vehicles must be a maximum of 4.20 meters in overall length and be approved for operation on public roads.

  • World Luxury Car: Vehicles eligible for World Luxury Car must be produced in volumes of at least 5,000 units/year, must be priced at the luxury-car level in their primary markets, and must be “on-sale” in at least two major markets (China, Europe, India, Japan, Korea, Latin America, USA) on at least two separate continents within the period January 1, 2021 and March 30, 2022. Luxury Car placement is determined based solely on its range of prices over all available models. Specifically, the price range of the subject vehicle is compared to that of established luxury-class vehicles in the major markets where the car is sold and if its median price falls within or above that range, the vehicle is classified as a Luxury vehicle.

  • Vehicles eligible for World Performance Car must be produced in volumes of at least 2,000 units/year, must be overtly performance-focused in overall character, and must be “on-sale" in at least two major markets (China, Europe, India, Japan, Korea, Latin America, USA) on at least two separate continents within the period January 1, 2021 and March 30, 2022. Substantially revised variations of existing models, specifically designed to enhance overall performance characteristics, may be eligible, at the discretion of the organizers.
